Job Description
DVRPC’s Office of Transit, Bicycle, and Pedestrian Planning conducts planning studies for communities in the Greater Philadelphia region. The Office is seeking a fall intern to support a variety of multimodal planning projects with mapping, design, and writing tasks. The associate planner will collaborate on multidisciplinary project teams, working closely with OTBP staff and with staff from other DVRPC offices.
A successful candidate will be an analytical thinker with an interest in multimodal transportation and will have strong written and graphic communication skills. This new member of the team will have the opportunity to develop projects with an immediate supervisor and to conduct tasks independently. Candidates with digital mapping (ArcGIS), design (Adobe Illustrator and InDesign), and spreadsheet (Excel) skills are preferred.
Projects may include: City of Philadelphia Transit Plan assistance, Equity Through Access, SEPTA Mobility Hubs, Trenton Bike Plan, and SEPTA Transit-Supportive Land Use Study. Project/task assignments will be tailored to candidates’ skills and interests.
Responsibilities
- Actively participates in project meetings and plan development.
- Develops maps, graphics, and illustrations for presentations and reports.
- Prepares written summaries of analysis and research for use at meetings and in reports.
- Assists with fieldwork and surveys, as required.
Qualifications
- Strong interest in transportation planning and policy.
- Demonstrated ability to write well and with a high attention to detail.
- Strong mapping and graphic communication skills, especially with ArcGIS and Adobe Creative Suite software.
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
Availability
Full-time internships require a commitment of up to 37.5 hours per week.
Compensation
Salary is commensurate with education and experience. Students with Work-Study funding are encouraged to apply.
Minimum Education and Training
Must have completed at least THREE YEARS of a college/university program or be enrolled in a master's program, or an equivalent combination of experience and training, plus substantial experience, interest, or involvement in transportation engineering or planning.
