The project recommends capping two and a half blocks of the Vine Street Expressway to reconnect the Chinatown neighborhood in Philadelphia.

Earlier this month the Chinatown Stitch received the “Philadelphia Award” at the WTS Philadelphia Annual Awards Gala. Following extensive community engagement, the project recommended capping two and a half blocks of the Vine Street Expressway to reconnect the Chinatown neighborhood in Philadelphia. The project was also the recipient of a $158 million Reconnecting Communities and Neighborhoods grant from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

This was a collaborative project that included the City of Philadelphia Office of Transportation Infrastructure and Systems (OTIS), Philadelphia Chinatown Development Corporation, McCormick Taylor, and DVRPC. DVRPC staff contributed modeling and planning work, and advised and supported communications and public engagement efforts.

Congratulations to the staff who contributed: Thom Stead, Kelsey McElduff, Sarah Moran, Gina Myers, Amy Solano, and Elise Turner, as well as other staff members who supported the various outreach activities throughout the process.
