A ribbon cutting was held on October 11, 2024, to celebrate the opening of the Pennypack Path Connector Trail in Philadelphia. Part of the Circuit Trails network, this new segment creates a seamless connection from the Delaware River to Bucks County.

The Pennypack Path Connector Trail is officially open! The new segment links the Pennypack Path to the Pennypack Trail at State Road and Rhawn Street, creating a more than 15-mile connection from the Delaware River to Bristol Road in Bucks County.

The project provides a new safe crossing of State Road for cyclists and pedestrians with a concrete refuge island in the center of the road. There were also modifications to traffic signals, line striping, ADA ramp installations, sidewalks along a curb extension of the cartway, and Philadelphia Water Department green stormwater infrastructure (GSI).

A ribbon cutting was held on October 11, 2024, with the City of Philadelphia’s Department of Streets, Philadelphia Water Department, and Philadelphia Parks and Recreation, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT), and DVRPC.

Making connections between active transportation and transit is a key strategy for reducing our transportation system’s impact on local health and the global climate. This project improves connections to Holmesburg station and provides local residents with safer access to Pennypack Park, including the Delaware waterfront. DVRPC awarded $120,000 for design of the intersection improvements through the Regional Trails Program ($60,000 in 2015 and $60,000 in 2018). DVRPC recommended and Pennsylvania awarded $1,000,000 for construction through the Transportation Alternatives Set-Aside program in 2021.
