This workshop was the first in a series of “Climate Change Adaptation Community of Practice Workshops” and took place on October 25, 2016. The workshop provided those who are responsible for the health of trees in forests, on streets, in parks, in yards, and on academic and corporate campuses a better understanding of how trees in our region are expected to respond to the inevitable threats of climate change. These threats include more hot days, fewer days below freezing, longer periods of drought, heavier storms, and stronger winds.
Expert panelists spoke briefly about what their research indicates is happening, as well as what they have learned about keeping current tree species healthy and selecting species going forward. Panelists took questions from workshop participants about specific issues they may be facing.
